OJK: Banking Industry Remains Optimistic, Performance and Risks Well Managed in Q3 2026

OJK Banking Business Orientation Survey Q3-2026

Jakarta, 10 September 2026. Indonesia Financial Services Authority (OJK) records sustained optimism within the banking industry in the third quarter of 2026, amid rising uncertainty in both global and domestic economies. This is reflected by the Banking Business Orientation Index (IBP) in the optimistic zone at 56, supported by expectations of robust banking performance and controlled risk perceptions.

The OJK’s Banking Business Orientation Survey (SBPO) for the third quarter of 2026 involved 99 respondent banks in July 2026. These respondents represent 97.91% of commercial banks' total assets based on June 2026 data.

OJK’s Chief Executive of Banking Supervision, Dian Ediana Rae, stated that the SBPO results show the banking industry remains optimistic about performance prospects and is confident in its ability to manage risks. This optimism is reflected in the projected growth of banking performance and the ability of banks to keep risks under control.

The banking industry’s expectations for macroeconomic conditions in the third quarter of 2026 remain strongly influenced by global economic dynamics, particularly expectations of rising inflation and global benchmark interest rates.

The industry’s perception of banking risk remains in the optimistic zone. The Risk Perception Index (IPR) is recorded at 57. The majority of respondents believe that credit quality is being maintained, Net Open Position (NOP) remains at a low level with foreign currency assets and receivables exceeding foreign currency liabilities (long position), and liquidity risk remains under control.

Respondents also expect banking liquidity instruments and Third Party Funds (DPK) to continue growing in the third quarter of 2026. The projected growth of DPK, anticipated to exceed loan disbursement growth, also contributes to higher net cash flow in the banking sector.

From a performance perspective, the banking industry continues to demonstrate strong optimism. The Performance Expectation Index (IEK) is recorded at 83, indicating an optimistic outlook. Respondents expect credit to continue growing in line with increased credit demand and expansion through the available pipeline.

The manufacturing industry, as the economic sector that most dominates bank lending, recorded annual credit growth of 16.85% (year-on-year/yoy) in July 2026. Respondents expect this sector will remain one of the main drivers of credit growth going forward.

On the funding side, respondents expect Third Party Funds to continue to grow in the third quarter of 2026. Banks continue to optimize funding-source collection to support credit expansion while maintaining liquidity.

Banking Industry Closely Monitors Global Uncertainty

All commercial bank respondents demonstrate a high level of vigilance regarding global developments, which may persist over a prolonged period and could even be accompanied by risks of further deterioration. Respondents view these dynamics as having significant implications for the national economy's outlook and performance going forward.

Amidst these dynamics, key indicators in the financial services sector—particularly banking—continue to show sustained performance and resilience. These conditions are reflected in sustained credit growth, robust capitalization, and ample liquidity, despite ongoing global and domestic economic uncertainty.

Nevertheless, the sustainability of banking sector performance requires a healthy, stable, and conducive economic ecosystem so banks' intermediation function can continue to operate optimally in supporting national economic growth.

Going forward, it is essential to maintain the momentum of national economic growth through various efforts that support stability, productivity, and increased competitiveness. With solid economic fundamentals, the banking sector is expected to sustain healthy, sustainable growth while strengthening resilience in the face of global challenges.

About SBPO

OJK conducts the Banking Business Orientation Survey (SBPO) quarterly to gain insights into the direction of the economy, industry perceptions of banking risks, and the outlook and trends of the banking business for the upcoming quarter. The SBPO produces the Banking Business Orientation Index (IBP), a composite index that reflects industry sentiment on a scale of 1 to 100. An index value above 50 indicates optimism, a value of 50 indicates stability, and a value below 50 indicates pessimism.

The IBP consists of three sub-indices: the Macroeconomic Condition Expectation Index (IKM), the Risk Perception Index (IPR), and the Performance Expectation Index (IEK). In addition to these three indices, the SBPO also provides information on issues developing within the banking industry and various factors considered to influence banking performance.

Historically, SBPO results have proven to be relatively accurate in predicting the direction of several macroeconomic and banking indicators in Indonesia.
